A very fun site featuring IKEA...

I found a very useful site if you love Ikea furniture. These Ikea inspired redo's are from a site I found called IkeaHacker.... and what creative redo's on some furniture they have. I love the idea of re purposing furniture.

This is the Billy bookself system, with added doors and extenders, made into a pantry. Check it out! http://ikeahacker.blogspot.com/
Love the repurposed end table....... doggy bed in style.

The bench seating is really some upper cabinets from Ikea's kitchen collection, put together, some nice seat cushions and voila, instant corner bench seating! Luv it.

It's Sunday......

I must say that after all my efforts and hard work, I am pleased with the way the mud room is shaping up. I did say shaping up didn't I? That's because I am almost done, that is about 85% of the work is done. I managed to cut and install the trim, paint them, paint the walls (they are the same colour, but after two years of it they needed refreshing) and installed the flooring!!! OK, I'll admit that Nicolle did help me with the painting, as much as a 9 year old can, but she was a big help in the painting department! I found this neat flooring at Home Depot that is called TrafficMASTER Allure and it's basically a self sticking floating floor that is a resilient plank flooring! It is the easiest flooring to put down, but very hard on the body and knees! I know, I'm sore as heck and in desperate need of a manicure. It looks great and it will serve well in my side room. It is water resistant, and has all the benefits of laminate flooring. The trim was fun too.
I had a box of corner blocks and plinths in the basement that I've been wanting to use, and I hate cutting mitre corneres anyway, and they turned out great on the trim work.

I still have the baseboards to cut, install and paint them, finish the inside door and window (that is put up decorative trim to blend it to the inside look) and that should take me about a good day to do that, and install the closet doors, lol. I'm laughing because I can foresee some problems with that one. We'll see. So I hope that on my day off next week I can finish that and get the closet in order as well as put the finishing touches in my new room!

A mud room to inspire...

Tuesday, February 24, 2009

Well I've finally committed to getting some things done around here and the first order of business is my entrance way/mud room.Actually my daughter MJ had offered to help clear out the room so that I can start to finish it. It was created about two years ago and since then I've just used it as is, unfinished. The closet hasn't any doors, windows are without trim, the floor is raw and there is no trim. I had visions when it was first created but out of necessity we started using it right away and before I knew it things just kept piling up in it.
The room measures 16'X6' and it also has an old outside window and the original entry door, which is wood, and both are on an inside wall. There are three windows which makes for nice lighting during the day.

Tomorrow I am off to shop for flooring, closet doors and a remedy to somehow incorporate the old window. Maybe I will check out the tools while I'm there. Did I mention that I am obsessed with tools. Lately I've been obsessing about a tool called the Sonicrafter. I know that this little tool would come in handy for this little project! This baby is only available by order, but there are comparable imitations out there so maybe I'll do a little investigating while I'm out at the big box stores!

Stay tuned. I'll post my finished pics as soon as I'm done. Hopefully Sunday.
